When we first arrived in Ecuador, I knew it was going to be a special time in our lives. From the warm, welcoming people we met to the breathtaking scenery we enjoyed daily—especially the stunning view from our balcony—Ecuador quickly became a place I treasured. As a new mom navigating the challenges of motherhood and postpartum, I found comfort in the grounding presence of Quito. It wasn’t just a physical home; it was a space where I found mental and spiritual peace.

But life for our family has always been about chapters, and the chapter of our lives in Ecuador has come to a close. We’ve embarked on a new adventure to Germany, and while we’re settling into our new home, I’ve been reflecting on our time in Ecuador and the question I’ve been getting a lot lately: Why did we leave Ecuador?

The Real Reason Behind Our Move from Ecuador

I’ve shared openly how much we enjoyed living in Ecuador on my channel, and every word still rings true. Despite our deep love for the country and the incredible people we met, our time in Ecuador—like our time in Morocco, India, and the United States—was always going to be temporary.

The primary reason we moved from Ecuador is my husband’s career in the Foreign Service. His work requires us to relocate every few years, and this time, his posting brought us to Germany. If you’re curious about what life in the Foreign Service looks like, I have a few posts that dive into the details.

The Challenges of Moving with a Toddler

Each move brings its own set of challenges, and relocating to Germany was no exception—especially since it was the first time we moved with a toddler. When we moved to Ecuador, I was pregnant, and while that move had its complexities, it wasn’t as challenging as relocating with an active little one.

Leaving Ecuador was tough. I had built a routine I loved, from morning walks in my favorite parks to frequenting cozy little restaurants with my son. The view from our home was unbeatable, and despite concerns about rising crime and safety issues, I felt a deep sense of belonging in Quito. Picking up and leaving all of that behind was incredibly hard.

Embracing Our New Life in Germany

Now that we’re in Germany, we’re slowly settling in and adjusting to our new surroundings. While it’s been rewarding, the transition hasn’t been easy. Moving for a job is one thing, but adapting to a new culture, environment, and lifestyle—especially with a toddler—is a whole different experience.

Our home here is beautiful, but I still find myself mourning the life we left behind in Ecuador. However, I know that with time, Germany will feel like home, too. I’m excited to share more about our life here in future videos, from exploring local culture to navigating daily life as a family abroad.

Why Ecuador Will Always Have a Special Place in My Heart

Ecuador was more than just a place we lived; it was a transformative chapter in our lives. It’s where I became a mom, where we built lasting friendships, and where we experienced a rich, vibrant culture. Although political and social factors limited some of our explorations, there is still so much of Ecuador I want to see—and I can’t wait to return one day.

To everyone who supported us during our time in Ecuador, thank you. Your encouragement and kindness made our journey even more special. I hope my videos have been helpful and inspiring, and I’m excited to continue sharing our adventures with you as we navigate this new chapter in Germany.
