I was baking Christmas cookies with my little one I was baking Christmas cookies with my little one in the kitchen when one of my favorite holiday songs started playing. It’s a song my mom and I would listen to on repeat while making treats together—prepping for family and friends to fill our home with laughter and love. At that moment, the weight of this season hit me. I miss those traditions, my mom, and being home for the holidays. This year, we chose to stay in Germany. Between the stress of traveling with a toddler, the cost, and the need to settle into our new life, staying put made the most sense. But choosing to stay doesn’t mean it’s easy. It doesn’t mean I’m not sad.
