  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup butter softened
  • 1 ¾ cups sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla

  • In a medium bowl, stir together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • In a large bowl, beat butter with an electric mixer on medium to high speed for 30 seconds. Add sugar and vanilla; beat until well combined.
  • Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  • Alternately add flour mixture and milk to the butter mixture, beating on low speed after each addition just until combined.
  • Pour batter into prepared pans. Bake for 30–35 minutes or until a wooden toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.
  • Cool cakes in pans on wire racks for 10 minutes. Remove from pans and cool thoroughly.

Notes

These recipes hold a lot of nostalgic meaning, especially when made with love. I created this cake in honor of my grandfather, who requested a yellow cake with chocolate frosting for his birthday. I hope this simple yet decadent treat brings joy to your table, too.
